Nuclear Health Physicist
About this role
Health Physicist providing technical support to radiation protection programs at Callaway Energy Center (800+ person PWR facility in mid-Missouri). Ensures safe, legal, and efficient plant operation through radioactive material management, ALARA implementation, radiological work planning, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- —Provide technical expertise to radiation protection programs, ensuring protection of plant personnel and public health/safety
- —Review and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local radiation protection regulations; maintain alignment with industry standards
- —Coordinate corrective action document responses and review RFRs for the Radiation Protection Department
- —Develop, maintain, and perform evaluations and calculations for applied radiation protection issues
- —Prepare and review procedure changes, FSAR updates, Technical Specifications, and regulatory documentation
- —Compile and submit compliance reports to federal, state, and regulatory agencies
- —Perform in-house surveillance activities and quality control/assurance evaluations
- —Prepare equipment and software specifications; evaluate suitability for operational use
- —Support special R&D work and emergency response organization duties with required response times
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent (Staff level); Bachelor of Science in chemistry, physics, health physics, nuclear engineering, or equivalent field (Senior/Consulting levels). Minimum 4 years applicable health physics experience (Staff); 6 years (Senior/Consulting). Proficiency with common computer programs. Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
Desired
NRRPT certification or ABHP Part 1 (Staff level preferred; Senior level required). Master's degree in radiation protection-related field (may substitute for one year experience). Doctorate degree in radiation protection-related field (may substitute for two years experience). ABHP certification or minimum one year experience as fully-qualified Radioactive Material Shipper at commercial nuclear facility (Consulting level).
Location
Callaway Energy Center, mid-Missouri. Standard day shift in office/plant environment; on-call duty, rotating/outage schedules, and emergency callouts required.
