Currently enrolled in Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field with nuclear reactor focus. Self-starter with critical thinking, problem-solving, and strong verbal/written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and maintain focus on safety.
About this role
Summer 2027 internship with Kairos Power's Nuclear Engineering team supporting development of analytical tools and computational methods for the Hermes molten salt reactor. Contribute to reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, structural analysis, and nuclear safety alongside experienced engineers.
Responsibilities
- Support design, development, verification, and validation of analytical tools, computational models, and engineering methods for reactor safety and performance
- Perform engineering analyses and computational modeling in reactor physics, radiation transport, thermal hydraulics, structural mechanics, CFD, and nuclear safety
- Assist with research and technology development projects focused on improving reactor safety, performance, efficiency, and commercialization
- Support V&V of engineering models through comparison with experimental data, benchmark problems, and reference solutions
- Analyze engineering data and prepare technical documentation supporting engineering decisions
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex technical challenges
- Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, presentations, and project documentation
Preferred qualifications
Experience with engineering analysis, computational modeling, or scientific computing tools (Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages). Laboratory work, research, or prior internship/work experience demonstrating technical application. Exposure to physics-based modeling through coursework or research in neutronics, thermal hydraulics, structural mechanics, CFD, or radiation transport. Understanding of reactor physics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, or radiation transport fundamentals.
