About this role
Join Kairos Power's Electrical Engineering team as a Summer 2027 intern supporting the design, implementation, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems for our fluoride-salt-cooled high-temperature reactor (FSHTR). You'll work hands-on with multidisciplinary engineers on measurement instrumentation, automated digital control systems, and process automation technologies.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, implementation, testing, commissioning, and operation of instrumentation and control systems for the test reactor
- Support development, integration, and maintenance of measurement instrumentation and automated digital process control systems
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams on electrical, instrumentation, and control system integration
- Assist with troubleshooting, testing, validation, and optimization of control systems
- Perform data collection, analysis, interpretation, and documentation to support engineering objectives
- Contribute to preparation, review, and presentation of technical reports and engineering documentation
- Support laboratory testing, equipment commissioning, system validation, prototyping, and troubleshooting activities
- Participate in team meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions
- Maintain clear, accurate, and organized engineering documentation and laboratory notebooks
Preferred qualifications
- Demonstrated application of technical skills through laboratory work, research, extracurricular projects, or prior internship/work experience
- Experience with control system software such as LabVIEW, PLCs, or similar automation platforms
- Experience with control system analysis, design, or industrial communication protocols
- Familiarity with industrial control systems, embedded systems, or automation technologies
- Experience with engineering software, programming languages, or scripting tools for controls and data analysis
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
Location, schedule, and travel
On-site internship; stationary work environment with potential for prolonged standing or sitting; may involve moving about to accomplish tasks.
