Required qualifications
Currently pursuing B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Materials Engineering, or related field. Understanding of basic engineering principles, experimental design, and data analysis. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Safety-conscious team player with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments.
About this role
Summer 2027 internship with Kairos Power supporting development of fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (HALEU fuel in molten salt). Hands-on work across Salt Chemistry, Fuels, and Materials teams in R&D, laboratory operations, and process engineering for advanced reactor technology.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering teams on technical projects and molten salt reactor technology development
- Conduct experimental design, data collection, analysis, and documentation in laboratory and manufacturing environments
- Contribute to process design, process safety, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support evaluation and implementation of new technologies and engineering solutions
- Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and engineering records for reproducibility and compliance
- Participate in technical reviews, cross-functional collaborations, and team meetings
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, and assist with improvement of laboratory and testing equipment
- Prepare and present project summaries on technical work and results
Preferred qualifications
Demonstrated technical laboratory work, research, or prior internship experience. Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, AutoCAD, or similar engineering software.
Location, schedule, and travel
Internship involves stationary positions, often standing.
