About this role

Nuclear Engineer I or II role at Duke Energy focused on electrical design and plant modifications at a nuclear facility. You'll develop scope, technical basis, and testing requirements for plant modifications while providing engineering expertise on AC/DC power systems, motors, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, voltage regulators, and breakers.

Responsibilities

Provide engineering and technical expertise in identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity

Develop scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for plant modifications

Design modifications involving AC power systems, DC power systems, large AC motors, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, voltage regulators, and breakers

Prepare thorough technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches

Conduct engineering studies and complete non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight

Support assigned engineering changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support

Manage project schedules and interfaces independently

Develop positive working relationships and coordinate work activities effectively

Maintain accurate records and files

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program (Master's degree in Engineering may substitute)

For Nuclear Engineer I: 0-2 years of engineering experience

For Nuclear Engineer II: 2-4 years of engineering experience and minimum 1 year of nuclear experience

Ability to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance

Ability to wear personal protective equipment as needed

Desired

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program

Proficient in engineering theories and principles

Experience researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, and making sound recommendations

Strong written and oral communication skills

Proficiency in project management principles

Experience in the utility industry

Location

Office and plant environments; 5-15% travel; occasional overnight travel required; must be available for Emergency Response Organization callouts and on-call duty rotation; shift work may be required based on business needs.
