Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer - Hybrid
About this role
Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer at Urenco USA's Eunice, NM uranium enrichment facility (10 CFR Part 70 licensee). Independently perform criticality safety analysis, design reviews, integrated safety assessments, and technical problem-solving to support facility operations, engineering programs, and regulatory compliance. Lead engineering projects, mentor junior staff, and provide technical guidance to senior management.
Responsibilities
- —Independently perform criticality safety analysis, calculations, and design activities supporting facility engineering programs and projects
- —Perform owner acceptance reviews of design packages and technical/quality reviews of engineering products, including 10 CFR 70.72(c) reviews
- —Develop and maintain knowledge of facility's design and licensing basis; resolve technical problems via Non-conformance Evaluations, Operability Determinations, and Quality Level determinations
- —Lead coordination of engineering projects and establish programs for effective implementation; mentor less experienced engineering personnel
- —Apply sound engineering judgment and professional rigor; maintain regulatory and schedule compliance; apply industrial safety and radiological safety practices in all field activities
- —Respond to departmental engineering inquiries, generate project implementation strategies, and collaborate with management and other organizations to resolve technical issues
- —Provide presentations to senior management on status and performance
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent
- —3–5 years of related Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) or Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) work experience
- —Criticality Safety, Chemical Dose Consequence, and/or integrated safety analysis experience in a 10 CFR Part 70 facility
- —Security clearance requirement: Controlled Access Area (CAA) access and L or Q level security clearance
Desired
- —Completion of training program in physics of criticality and associated safety practices (ANSI/ANS 8.26)
- —Experience performing chemical dose consequence analyses
- —Master's Degree or PhD in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
- —Professional Engineering (PE) License
- —5+ years of related work experience, including 2+ years in a nuclear facility or Part 70 licensee
- —Design Safety Basis Development, HAZOP, Documented Safety Analysis experience
- —Monte Carlo Computer code experience (MCNP or MONK preferred)
- —RASCAL, ALOHA, or similar computer code experience
Location
Eunice, NM. Hybrid: 75% on-site / 25% remote. Travel required ≤10%. Some nights and weekend work required. Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duty and on-call support (24/7) during designated team duty weeks required.
