NDE Specialist- Farley
About this role
NDE Specialist position at Farley Nuclear Plant (Dothan, Alabama) supporting Fleet Outage Services. You will perform non-destructive examinations on reactor systems and components, evaluate inspection results against ASME codes and ANSI standards, and plan testing activities across Southern Nuclear's operating sites. This role requires Level II and Level IIA Eddy Current Testing certification and hands-on knowledge of nuclear power plant systems and regulations.
Responsibilities
- —Plan, schedule, and perform non-destructive examinations (NDE) in the field, including eddy current testing on reactor and balance-of-plant components
- —Evaluate inspection results, interpret data against applicable code requirements, and prepare technical reports
- —Prepare and set up NDE test equipment for inspections; manage calibration and qualification documentation
- —Travel to Southern Nuclear operating sites (up to 50%) to support outage activities, conduct inspections, and implement corrective actions
- —Apply ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section VIII) and ANSI standards in all inspection work
- —Coordinate with engineering and operations teams on inspection findings and schedule adjustments
Qualifications
- —High school diploma or equivalent
- —Level II Eddy Current Testing (ECT) certification (required prior to hire)
- —Working knowledge of applicable ASME code (Section VIII) and ANSI standards
- —Knowledge of nuclear power plant systems, safety culture, and regulatory environment
- —Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access at nuclear facilities (10 CFR 73.56)
- —High level of written and verbal communication skills
- —Must provide complete, current certification package for verification prior to employment
Desired
- —Level IIA ECT certification
- —Additional NDE methods certification (ultrasonic, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle)
- —Prior industrial or power generation site inspection experience
- —Demonstrated leadership attributes and mentoring experience
Location
Primary base: Farley Nuclear Plant, Dothan, Alabama. Domestic travel required up to 50% to support outage activities at other Southern Nuclear Company fleet units. Full-time position.
