About this role

A Department of Defense SkillBridge-approved Military Fellowship with Dominion Energy's Electric Transmission organization. Transitioning servicemembers will gain hands-on experience in protective relaying, SCADA systems, and operational technology while building foundational knowledge for a potential full-time career in electric transmission system protection.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside senior team members on installation, maintenance, and corrective actions for protective relaying schemes, communication systems, SCADA components, and operational technology systems
  • Prepare and participate in Pre-Job Briefs to identify hazards and critical tasks
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of protection and control equipment
  • Verify functionality and communication of protection assets during installation
  • Contribute to verification of station alarms
  • Participate in acceptance testing of voltage and current sensing devices
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain protective relays and associated protection components
  • Maintain and test protection systems within defined maintenance intervals to address regulatory requirements and system reliability
  • Participate in electromechanical and microprocessor relay repair and troubleshooting
  • Complete compliance paperwork and supporting documentation
  • Apply cyber security controls per Dominion Energy standards
  • Support on-site electrical transmission operations during nuclear outages
  • Apply electrical clearance boundaries and human performance work zone strategies
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders during construction activities
  • Confirm primary equipment operates to manufacturer specifications
  • Verify engineering protective relay setpoints and logic equations
  • Assist with installation of network-based or new technology protection schemes
  • Perform maintenance activities to ensure system reliability and regulatory compliance

Location, schedule, and travel

Multiple locations across Dominion Energy's footprint in Virginia and company service territory; on-site work in field facilities including potential support during nuclear outages. Fellowship duration up to 180 days based on mutual agreement.
