Met Lab Technician
About this role
Met Lab Technician supporting nuclear fuel production at Westinghouse. Perform metallographic sample preparation, testing, and analysis using optical and mechanical equipment. Handle U-235 accountability and maintain strict compliance with nuclear safety, criticality, and security procedures.
Responsibilities
- —Prepare metallographic samples via cutting, filing, grinding, mounting, polishing, and etching
- —Operate optical, mechanical, corrosion, and metallographic test equipment; perform visual inspections
- —Maintain sample identification and testing records; perform mathematical analysis (density, grain size, corrosion calculations)
- —Execute routine and non-routine sample preparation per written procedures or qualified personnel instruction
- —Maintain U-235 accountability log and manage data acquisition systems for sample traceability
- —Follow accountability, criticality, safety, security, and hygiene procedures
- —Maintain equipment, work area, and consumable supply inventory
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent with chemistry, physics, or electronics coursework. Two years analytical laboratory experience. Ability to identify process upsets, perform basic conversions and statistical calculations, and apply analytical chemistry techniques.
Desired
Technical degree in laboratory science, materials engineering, or welding technology
