Mechanical Engineer
About this role
Mechanical Engineer at Callaway Energy Center (Ameren), a single-unit PWR nuclear facility in mid-Missouri. Provides technical ownership of mechanical systems, components, and design bases to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. Ensures NRC regulatory compliance, optimizes equipment performance, and leads plant modifications, troubleshooting, and emergency response activities.
Responsibilities
- —Manage assigned technical programs, systems, components, and design bases; ensure compliance with NRC regulations, industry codes/standards, and plant procedures
- —Evaluate and perform causal analysis of equipment/system conditions, deficiencies, and failures; trend health and performance through operational data, inspections, and plant walkdowns
- —Perform engineering evaluations, calculations, and technical analyses; disposition Requests for Resolution including Engineering Evaluations, Material Equivalencies, and Modifications
- —Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Work Management, and regulatory agencies for planning and execution of cost-effective maintenance and outage activities
- —Provide engineering support during outages, emergent issues, and operational events; support troubleshooting of complex plant problems
- —Develop, revise, and review engineering documents, design changes, procedures, and technical specifications for safety-related equipment
- —Review technical specifications and instruction manuals to determine testing and maintenance requirements; review and share NRC and INPO operating experience
- —Support design changes and design basis modifications; participate in technical design reviews, hazard analyses, and maintenance planning
- —Act as Responsible Engineer or Project Manager for plant modifications; oversee outside architect/engineering and service organizations
- —Assume Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties per Callaway Radiological Emergency Response Plan
Qualifications
- —Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- —Ability to meet plant access, security screening, and fitness-for-duty requirements
- —Ability to work safely in industrial environments including radiation areas, heights, and confined spaces
- —Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent written and verbal communication
- —Ability to work in a regulated environment and follow strict procedures; good leadership and decision-making abilities
Desired
- —Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) Registration
- —Previous nuclear utility experience
Location
Callaway Energy Center, Fulton, Missouri. Standard day shift in office and plant environment; additional hours and/or rotating shifts required during refueling outages and emergent plant activities.
