Manager, Natrium Fuel Handling Systems

About this role
Lead the engineering and delivery of fuel handling systems for TerraPower's Natrium advanced reactor. As system lead and design authority for the Water Pool Fuel Handling System and Fuel Transport and Storage System, you'll manage a multidisciplinary engineering team while overseeing design and delivery of spent fuel pool and dry cask storage equipment. This role reports to Plant Design Engineering and interfaces with Project Management, Nuclear Licensing, Quality Assurance, and Operations.
Responsibilities
- —Review and approve engineering design documentation; ensure design configuration and interfaces are controlled
- —Ensure all engineering work complies with quality, technical, and procedural requirements; oversee supplier/partner/vendor technical work
- —Identify technical and project risks associated with design and operation of fuel handling systems
- —Demonstrate visible, continuous leadership in safety, quality, and technical excellence
- —Hire, train, develop, and assign technical work to engineering team members based on project schedule, resource availability, and budget
- —Monitor team performance against schedule and budget targets; develop technical work scope and cost estimates
- —Support Project Management in schedule development and maintenance
- —Interface with Plant Design Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Operations, Quality Assurance, Testing, Nuclear Licensing, and Materials/Chemistry teams
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, Systems, Civil or similar) from an accredited university
- —10+ years of experience with design and/or engineering management of system and/or component design
- —2+ years of supervisory or mentoring experience, or equivalent people leadership experience
- —Experience preparing and approving specifications, calculations, drawings/diagrams, and other design documentation
Desired
- —Experience in nuclear or energy sectors
- —Experience with ASME NQA-1 quality standards
- —Experience designing or overseeing nuclear cranes/hoists, below-the-hook lifting devices, spent fuel storage racks, spent fuel pools, fuel pool cleanup/purification systems, chemical/fluid process systems, or spent fuel dry storage casks
- —Familiarity with design codes: ASME BPVC, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME NOG-1, ASME NUM-1, ASME BTH-1, or ANSI/AISC N690
- —Ability to manage competing priorities concurrently with minimal direction to solve multidisciplinary problems
- —High degree of trust, integrity, strong communication skills, and ability to foster teamwork
