Required qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required. Work experience: 6 years in applicable nuclear, power plant, steel mill, paper mill, chemical, or oil refinery maintenance OR 4 years with Associate degree OR 4 years with Certificate of Completion plus 18 months documented training. Valid state driver's license. Successful completion of Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test. Must be able to work rotating shifts (weekends, nights, holidays), respond to callouts, work in confined spaces and elevated areas, wear respirator when required, and read technical drawings and specifications.

About this role

Journeyman industrial maintenance mechanic at a nuclear power facility responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance of plant machinery, including mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. You'll troubleshoot and repair critical equipment such as boilers, turbines, generators, and pumps; operate precision machine shop equipment; and mentor apprentice mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical components including boilers, turbines, generators, pumps, control valves, fans, and rotating equipment
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, align, and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Operate machine shop equipment (lathes, shapers, drill presses, milling machines, boring bars) to produce precision components
  • Perform structural welding (electric arc and oxyacetylene) and cutting, heating, and brazing of piping and structural components
  • Use vibration and thermal test equipment to assess equipment condition and predict maintenance needs
  • Erect/remove scaffolding, perform rigging, lifting, and blocking operations
  • Operate and maintain mobile equipment (manlifts, forklifts, backhoes) with pre-use inspections
  • Lead defect analysis and repair efforts; train apprentice mechanics
  • Respond to both outage and non-outage callouts; maintain shift and operational schedules

Preferred qualifications

Associate degree in industrial maintenance or mechanical discipline; Certificate in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation.

Location, schedule, and travel

Rotating shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays. Remote equipment inspection required daily. Minimal long-distance travel. Medium physical demand: 20–50 lbs occasional lift, 10–25 lbs frequent lift. Must work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and variable temperature environments.
