Required qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; Nuclear Power Plant Unescorted Access authorization; successful completion of site-specific training and qualifications; ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and plant documentation; proficiency with standard computer applications and electronic work management systems; background in Electrical/I&C/Operations at a nuclear power plant; familiarization with Electrical and I&C systems; ability to walk throughout nuclear power station; ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and access elevated work areas; ability to enter confined or restricted access areas following station procedures; ability to wear required PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and respiratory protection; ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
About this role
Isolation Verification Specialist at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant responsible for independently validating plant clearances, isolation boundaries, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) configurations to ensure personnel safety and regulatory compliance during maintenance, modification, and outage activities. Role involves extensive field verification in radiological and industrial environments, coordination with Operations, Maintenance, and Radiation Protection teams, and accurate documentation of all validation activities.
Responsibilities
- Verify and validate plant clearances, isolation boundaries, LOTO configurations, and safety barriers before work activities begin
- Perform field walkdowns to establish required isolations aligned with approved plant documentation and P&IDs
- Review and interpret plant drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), electrical diagrams, system descriptions, procedures, and engineering work packages
- Coordinate with plant Operations, Maintenance, and Radiation Protection to ensure work activities are conducted safely
- Identify and escalate discrepancies between documented and field conditions through appropriate channels
- Support pre-job planning by confirming equipment boundaries and isolation requirements
- Maintain accurate records of validation activities and communicate status to project leadership and station personnel
- Promote nuclear safety culture by adhering to station procedures and regulatory standards
Preferred qualifications
RO (Reactor Operator), SRO (Senior Reactor Operator), or NLO (Non-Licensed Operator) certification; previous commercial nuclear power plant operations experience; experience with plant clearances, lockout/tagout programs, system walkdowns, or configuration management; experience supporting outages, modifications, maintenance activities, or major projects in a nuclear facility.
Location, schedule, and travel
Onsite at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant in Avila Beach, California; field-based role with extensive walking, climbing, confined space access, and work in industrial and radiological controlled areas.
