Required qualifications
Associate degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent education and experience. Successful completion of the Plant Technician Selection System (TECH) test. Thorough knowledge of electronics, electrical, mechanical, and physics principles relative to nuclear instrumentation. Ability to read, interpret, and work from diagrams and schematics. Junior level requires two years' experience in Instrumentation and Controls or related field. Mid-level requires two years' experience as Junior I&C Tech at a nuclear facility and completion of portion of required I&C training. Senior level requires two years' experience as I&C Tech at a nuclear facility with four years total experience and completion of required senior technician training.
About this role
Perform technical work on electronic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems supporting nuclear plant operations at D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant. This role involves calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of reactor protection and control instrumentation systems, posted at junior, mid-level, or senior technician levels based on qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of electronic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic process instrumentation systems
- Test and calibrate/repair pneumatic and electronic transmitters, indicators, converters, switches, PA and telephone communication systems, heat trace circuits, alarm modules, controllers, and recorders
- Analyze, test, and repair solid state reactor protection system, rod control system, and rod position indicator system
- Assist in installing design changes on instrumentation equipment including wiring modifications, cable testing, wire terminations, and piping/tubing installation
- Support engineers and vendor technical representatives in data collection, troubleshooting, and testing of specialized complex equipment
- Report errors, damaged equipment, and abnormal conditions
- Review new and revised procedures for accuracy and performability
Location, schedule, and travel
On-site at D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant. Permanent residence required within 45-minute safe drive. Exposure to hazardous areas, radiation (within NRC limits), heat, cold, noise, and outdoor weather conditions. Medium physical demand (20–50 lbs occasional, 10–25 lbs frequent lifting).
