Required qualifications

Electrician-C: Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent technical training/experience, one year experience in the electrical field, and combined training and/or experience minimum 3 years. Electrician-B: Two years' experience as Electrician-C plus three years of related electrical work experience, and specific knowledge of nuclear standards, policies, practices and procedures relating to plant operations. Electrician-A: Two years' experience as Electrician-B plus three years of related electrical work experience, and specific knowledge of nuclear standards, policies, practices and procedures relating to plant operations. All levels: Successful completion of the Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test required and must establish and maintain permanent residence within 45-minute safe drive time to D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.

About this role

Perform routine maintenance and repair work on electrical and mechanical systems at the Cook Nuclear Plant, a critical safety-sensitive role involving troubleshooting, testing, and repair of equipment using schematics and control diagrams. This position is posted as a range (Electrician-C, B, or A) based on qualifications and experience. You will work in a regulated nuclear environment subject to NRC oversight and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Locate and repair defects in electrical, solid state, electronic, or mechanical systems using wiring, schematic and control diagrams
  • Set up and connect testing devices; perform tests on various electrical equipment
  • Inspect, repair and diagnostically test motor operated valve actuators, limit and torque switches
  • Test, troubleshoot, and repair emergency lighting battery packs and all types of lighting
  • Lubricate bearings on electric motors and adjust and replace belts on pulleys
  • Disassemble, inspect, repair and reassemble standard electric motors; make splices and connections
  • Perform routine repair and maintenance on switches, sockets and outlets (up to 260 volts) under close supervision
  • Apply proper rigging; erect and secure blocking and cribbing to support loads
  • Tape electrical connectors on circuits up to 260 volts
  • Operate power and hand tools to assemble and disassemble devices for repair
  • Perform layout work and layout conduit
  • Comply with Technical Specifications, ANSI Standards, NEC Codes, ASME and NEMA requirements
  • Train and instruct new and lower-level employees (Electrician-B and A)
  • Support Emergency Plan Organization, HAZMAT response, and Corrective Action Program activities
  • Perform all duties in compliance with safety policies and in hazardous areas with potential radiation exposure within NRC limits

Preferred qualifications

Strong interpersonal skills preferred for Electrician-B and A levels.

Location, schedule, and travel

Onsite at D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant (requires permanent residence within 45-minute safe drive time). Work in hazardous areas with potential radiation exposure within NRC limits; exposure to heat, cold, noise, and outdoor weather conditions; medium physical demand (exerting 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently).
