Required qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Michigan Fire Fighter's Training Council (MFFTC) Firefighter I & II certification or equivalent, OR associate's degree in related technical field, OR certification in related technical field. At least one year of firefighting experience OR two years of work experience in a related technical field. Valid driver's license. Ability to perform duties independently once qualifications are granted. Must establish and maintain permanent residence within 45-minute safe drive time to D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
About this role
Entry-level Fire Protection Technician position at Cook Nuclear Plant (PWR facility). Focuses on fire prevention, hazmat response, and confined space rescue operations supporting nuclear plant safety. You will conduct fire protection inspections, maintain emergency response equipment, and complete on-the-job training to become a fully qualified Fire Protection Technician.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Fire Protection Program inspections and surveillances, including Control of Combustible Materials and Hot Work Program walkdowns
- Perform Fire Protection Equipment Impairment Reviews to determine scheduling conflicts, isolation boundaries, and compensatory requirements
- Inspect and maintain emergency response equipment
- Complete initial and ongoing Fire Responder qualifications testing/training and on-the-job training (OJT) with Task Performance Evaluations (TPE)
- Pass annual physical examinations and physical ability tests per Federal and State requirements
- Adhere to Cook Nuclear Plant procedures and perform computer data input as required
Preferred qualifications
Michigan Fire Fighter's Training Council (MFFTC) Firefighter I & II certification. Confined Space Rescue training/certification. Hazmat Operations and/or Hazmat Technician certification. EMS training/license.
Location, schedule, and travel
Onsite at D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant, Bridgman, Michigan. Heavy work physical demands (exerting 50–100 lbs occasionally, 25–50 lbs frequently). Must reside within 45-minute safe drive time to facility.
