Industrial Thermal Insulation Technician

NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Thermal Insulation or equivalent practical experience. Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, Working at Height, IPAF/PASMA, Confined Space, and Abrasive Wheels certifications. NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Passive Fire Protection preferred. Full UK driving licence. Experience in industrial environments (energy, petrochemical, nuclear, manufacturing). Proven track record in insulation installation and fabrication.

Thermal insulation technician role at Westinghouse Springfields nuclear fuel manufacturing facility. Install, maintain, and repair thermal and acoustic insulation systems on industrial pipework, vessels, and equipment. Ensure energy efficiency, personnel safety, and regulatory compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental standards.

Install thermal insulation materials (mineral wool, PIR, phenolic foam, calcium silicate) on pipework, vessels, tanks, and ducting. Fit and secure protective cladding (aluminum, stainless steel, galvanised steel). Measure, cut, and fabricate sheet metal components including bends, valves, tees, and custom fittings. Interpret technical drawings and work instructions. Inspect, maintain, and repair existing insulation systems; safely remove and replace damaged insulation. Install and repair fire protection on unsealed penetrations. Ensure compliance with method statements, risk assessments, and permit systems. Maintain workmanship standards and site safety. Report hazards and quality issues promptly. Work safely at height, in confined spaces, and on live industrial sites. Participate in safety briefings.

Strong practical skills in insulation installation and sheet metal fabrication. Knowledge of insulation materials, systems, and industry standards.

Site-based at Westinghouse Springfields, Preston, Lancashire. Industrial environment exposure including work at height, confined spaces, and live industrial sites. PPE required at all times.
