Required qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 2-year post-secondary degree/certificate in electrical, electronics, PLC, or mechanical fields (or equivalent experience)
- 4+ years demonstrating mechanical, electrical, and PLC knowledge and hands-on skill
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and maintain full range of motion for 4+ hours daily (reaching, climbing, kneeling, bending, standing)
- Pass Westinghouse physical examination including spirometer testing for respirator use
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access and security clearance at nuclear facilities
About this role
Field Service Technician supporting Westinghouse's fuel handling equipment (FHE) and outage-critical crane systems at nuclear power plants nationwide. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment while ensuring regulatory compliance and safety protocols. Requires unescorted access to nuclear facilities and frequent travel to customer sites.
Responsibilities
- Install, set up, and maintain fuel handling and outage-critical crane equipment at customer nuclear power plant sites
- Review operational and maintenance procedures and technical drawings in detail
- Support engineering and training through equipment modifications, setup, testing, mock-up preparation, and qualifications
- Document equipment performance issues during field implementation and verify corrective actions before next use
- Maintain unescorted access status and security clearance at nuclear facilities
- Report field progress, changes, problems, and corrective actions to service supervisor daily or as-needed
- Participate in ongoing training to maintain certifications and stay current with procedures and technology
Preferred qualifications
- Prior nuclear industry experience
Location, schedule, and travel
Remote (US-based). 60–70% travel by airplane and automobile; projects typically 2–4 weeks with extended 2–3 month assignments during spring/fall outage seasons. Exposure to hazardous materials.
