Field Machinist Level III
About this role
Lead field machining operations at remote nuclear sites for Westinghouse's Specialty Welding and Machining team. As a Level III Machinist, you'll supervise daily activities, serve as technical SME, and deliver experienced field machining services reflecting the highest safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- —Perform technical/service lead and shift supervisor activities including project supervision, planning/scheduling, customer orientation, and conflict resolution
- —Act as subject matter expert to develop training and lesson plans and oversee program implementation
- —Operate machine tools, electrical test equipment, welding equipment, and measuring devices for fabrication, repair, calibration, and maintenance
- —Lead setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of field machining services and equipment at customer sites
- —Practice and promote ALARA principles and Safety First attitude in all activities
- —Demonstrate and promote good housekeeping practices in work areas
- —Provide support to engineering and training through equipment modifications, setup/testing, mock-up preparation, and process qualifications
- —Document equipment performance issues and ensure corrective actions are complete prior to next scheduled use
- —Provide feedback to engineering and customers regarding design documentation errors and recommended changes
- —Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and blueprints
- —Record data in required forms
- —Develop and promote team building skills with peers, superiors, contractors, customers, and other departments
- —Assist in monitoring and managing the machine shop budget
- —Serve as technical advisor as required
Qualifications
- —Two (2) year Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting (3D Modeling – Inventor preferred), or Machine Tool Technology, or equivalent work experience
- —5 years of Machine Shop and/or Maintenance and/or Welding background
- —Understanding and application of part tolerancing and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- —Proficiency with standard Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)
Desired
- —Experience with business process improvement principles such as Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, 5S, Human Performance
- —3D Modeling experience with Inventor
Location
Hybrid role; field work at remote customer sites requiring ability to lift/carry 50 lbs, access confined spaces with limited access, climb ladders/manways/scaffolding, and perform repetitive motions and extended standing/bending/twisting
