Engineer - Engineer Sr (Protection and Controls Engineer)
About this role
Senior Protection and Controls Engineer at AEP responsible for advanced engineering expertise in nuclear and fossil plant protection systems, control systems, and distribution standards. Position requires demonstrated technical leadership as a recognized subject matter expert, with influence over organizational engineering direction and multi-functional project leadership.
Responsibilities
- —Exhibit advanced proficiency in nuclear/fossil plant operations, protection and control systems, thermo-hydraulic systems, or distribution standards; serve as technical resource and subject matter expert across the organization
- —Lead and coordinate work activities across teams, departments, and external entities; assume project or function manager roles for assigned complex engineering initiatives
- —Develop and implement solutions to complex engineering problems including scheduling, resource allocation, and cost control requiring multi-functional and multi-disciplined analytical techniques
- —Prepare and present complex technical subjects to senior management, regulatory bodies, and professional organizations
- —Build and maintain networks across AEP, peer companies, professional organizations, regulatory agencies, and academia
- —Make technical decisions based on calculated risks with impact on long-range organizational plans and cross-functional boundaries
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering (ABET-accredited) plus 4+ years related experience, OR Master's/PhD in engineering plus 2+ years related experience. Non-ABET Bachelor's acceptable if combined with Master's/PhD from ABET-accredited institution.
Desired
Professional Engineer (PE) registration in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico
Location
Sedentary work environment with occasional walking or standing for brief periods.
