Required qualifications
For T1: 0–1 years relevant experience. For T2: 1–2+ years directly related experience in electrical, electro-mechanical, and/or utility-scale protection. Associate's degree, Advanced Post Secondary diploma, or equivalent military experience required. Knowledge of circuit analysis, AC/DC machinery, power systems, and ability to use hand-held multimeters and read control drawings/schematics. Troubleshooting skills and ability to recognize electrical hazards. Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and live approximately 1 hour from designated work location for after-hours call-out availability.
About this role
Electrical Equipment Technician (T1/T2) at Dominion Energy's Surry nuclear facility, responsible for installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of electrical equipment supporting reactor operations. Entry-level role building foundational knowledge alongside senior technicians on construction projects and maintenance activities for substations and generation equipment at a nuclear station.
Responsibilities
- Participate in installation and commissioning of electrical equipment including transformers, batteries, circuit breakers, CCVTs, PTs, capacitor banks, and FACTS devices
- Perform acceptance testing of station and generation equipment; obtain oil samples and conduct infrared thermography inspections
- Test and maintain substation equipment (batteries, transformers, cables, breakers) and assist in LTC maintenance and commissioning
- Participate in troubleshooting activities and after-hours support; develop Pre-Job Briefs identifying hazards and critical tasks
- Inspect station and generation equipment to identify environmental issues; apply Cyber Security controls per Dominion standards
- Support on-site Electrical Technician organization during nuclear outages as directed
Preferred qualifications
Associate's degree or Advanced Post Secondary diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or Mechatronic Technology. Military service with 5+ years experience including at least 1 year of military technical training/education in electrical theory, AC/DC circuits, basic electrical principles, Ohm's Law, and multimeter applications.
Location, schedule, and travel
Surry nuclear facility (Virginia); outdoors 76–100% of time; on-site role with after-hours call-out response required; must reside approximately 1 hour from work location.
