Electrical Equipment Technician T1/T2 (Eastern Region)
About this role
Entry-level electrical equipment technician role supporting installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of substation and generation equipment (transformers, breakers, batteries, capacitor banks, FACTS devices) across Dominion Energy's Eastern Region facilities. T1/T2 positions build hands-on technical expertise through supervised field work during construction projects and planned maintenance activities. Role includes after-hours on-call support and potential nuclear outage support.
Responsibilities
- —Install, test, and commission electrical equipment including transformers, batteries, circuit breakers, CCVTs, PTs, capacitor banks, and FACTS devices
- —Perform acceptance testing and infrared thermography inspections to verify equipment meets manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements
- —Conduct routine maintenance on substation equipment (batteries, transformers, cables, breakers) and support load tap changer (LTC) maintenance and commissioning
- —Test vacuum bottles, aerial lifts, and obtain oil samples for condition monitoring
- —Troubleshoot electrical faults and equipment issues, including after-hours emergency support
- —Develop and execute pre-job briefs identifying hazards and critical tasks; apply cybersecurity controls per company standards
- —Complete compliance documentation and support transformer processing procedures and parts procurement
- —Inspect station/generation equipment for environmental issues; may support on-site Electrical Technician teams during nuclear outages
Qualifications
- —T1 level: 0–1 years relevant experience; T2 level: 1–2+ years directly related experience in electrical, electro-mechanical, or utility-scale protection
- —Associate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, or equivalent (deadline: December 2026); OR 5 years U.S. military experience including 1+ year technical training in electrical theory, AC/DC circuits, Ohms Law, fault isolation, and multimeter use
- —Basic understanding of substation equipment, circuit analysis, AC/DC machinery, and power systems
- —Proficiency with hand-held multimeters, control drawings, schematics, and equipment nameplates
- —Ability to recognize electrical hazards, troubleshoot systematically, and lift 50+ lbs
- —Must live within approximately 1 hour of designated work location due to after-hours call-out requirements
- —Physical requirement: weight not to exceed 290 lbs
Desired
- —Completion of steps 1–2 of Electrical Equipment development program (for T2 applicants)
- —Military service (ranks E3–E5, W1–W2, O1–O3; E4–E6 strongly preferred)
- —Strong organizational, communication, and basic computer skills
Location
Eastern Region; 76–100% outdoor work; on-call after-hours support required; must reside within ~1 hour of assigned work location; frequent lifting of 50+ lbs required
