Electrical Equipment Technician T1/T2 (Central Region)
About this role
Entry-level (T1) or intermediate (T2) electrical equipment technician supporting installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of substation and generation equipment at Dominion Energy nuclear and fossil facilities. T1 requires 0-1 years experience; T2 requires 1-2+ years in electrical/electro-mechanical fields or completion of Dominion's Electrical Equipment development program steps 1-2.
Responsibilities
- —Participate in installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of electrical equipment (transformers, batteries, circuit breakers, CCVTs, PTs, capacitor banks, FACTS devices) at field facilities
- —Perform acceptance testing and post-installation maintenance activities per business area programs
- —Obtain oil samples and conduct infrared thermography inspections; test vacuum bottles and aerial lifts
- —Support LTC (load tap changer) maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting; develop transformer processing procedures
- —Participate in troubleshooting activities including after-hours support and on-site support during nuclear outages
- —Develop Pre-Job Briefs identifying hazards and critical tasks; apply Cyber Security controls and complete compliance documentation
- —Inspect station and generation equipment to identify environmental issues
Qualifications
- —Associate's degree, Advanced Post Secondary diploma, or equivalent military experience (5+ years with 1+ year military electrical technical training)
- —Basic understanding of substation equipment and power systems
- —Knowledge of circuit analysis, AC/DC machinery, electrical hazard recognition, and troubleshooting
- —Proficiency with hand-held multimeters and ability to read control drawings, schematics, and equipment nameplates
- —Ability to lift 50+ lbs; weight limit 290 lbs maximum (equipment constraint)
- —Self-motivated, organized, with strong verbal/written communication and computer skills
- —Must live approximately 1 hour from designated work location for after-hours call-out response
Desired
- —T1: 0-1 years relevant electrical equipment experience
- —T2: 1-2+ years directly related experience in electrical, electro-mechanical, and/or utility scale protection; successful completion of Electrical Equipment development program steps 1-2
- —Preferred disciplines: Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or Mechatronic Technology
- —U.S. military service: E3-E5, W1-W2, O1-O3 for T1 track; E4-E6, W1-W2, O1-O3 for T2 track
Location
Central Region; 76-100% outdoor work; on-call after-hours response required; must be able to lift 50+ lbs and maneuver test equipment.
