About this role
Lead designer role at a US nuclear power plant responsible for planning, developing, and managing configuration changes to nuclear plant structures, systems, and components (SSCs) using CAD and engineering design software. Direct team members, ensure technical compliance with NRC design standards and engineering specifications, and manage budgets and schedules across multiple design complexity levels.
Responsibilities
- —Plan, prepare, and check configuration changes to drawings and databases for functional, physical, and administrative modifications to structures, systems, and components (SSCs)
- —Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering/design drafting techniques to develop and adapt standard SSC design configurations
- —Direct job assignments to team members and establish design and schedule expectations for successful task completion
- —Review completed work packages to ensure configuration changes are technically complete, properly checked, and all affected design database documentation is revised
- —Ensure conformance with engineering direction, specifications, design criteria, and design standards in all work performed
- —Prepare formal design time estimates for project and work scheduling; advise management of resources needed to meet schedules
- —Monitor job status, initiate corrective measures to overcome delays, and escalate unusual problems to supervisors
- —Participate in technical, scoping, and schedule planning meetings with project participants and other organizations
- —Advise management in budget preparation to ensure resources are available for assigned workload
- —Establish and maintain working interfaces with design teams in other disciplines, Architect Engineering firms, and vendors
- —Provide technical guidance, leadership, mentoring, and training to less experienced designers, drafters, and team members
- —Support Emergency Response Organization (ERO) activities including 24/7 on-call availability, rotating extended hour work shifts during outages, and engineering duty cycle support
Qualifications
Designer II–V positions available. Minimum qualifications vary by level: Associate's degree in technical field plus 2–8 years of highly technical nuclear plant design experience (or high school diploma/GED plus 4–10 years equivalent experience). Experience must include nuclear plant systems, structures, component design, documentation, and controlling standards/regulations.
Location
24/7 on-call availability required; rotating extended hour work shifts during outages; emergency response duty cycle support.
