Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering or physical science from accredited institution; 10+ years of engineering, maintenance, or operations experience; 7+ years in nuclear industry; 5+ years at an operating nuclear power plant; 3+ years management experience with significant engineering, operations, maintenance, and/or construction programs.
About this role
Design Engineering Manager overseeing mechanical, electrical, I&C, civil, and stress engineering teams at Columbia Generating Station (BWR). This role combines technical leadership with people management, budget oversight, and regulatory compliance to support safe and reliable plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage Design Engineering department staff (supervisors, engineers, designers, drafters); hire and conduct salary administration, performance ratings, and disciplinary actions
- Provide engineering direction on analysis techniques, technical requirements, and problem-solving; establish clear expectations and monitor performance to standards
- Establish and implement management controls ensuring NRC and industry regulatory compliance; maintain contact with industry groups on operating experience and regulatory changes
- Provide plant operability assessments for continued operation when degraded equipment is discovered
- Maintain accurate drawings, prepare specifications and design packages; develop budgets, schedules, and staffing requirements
- Develop staff capability through training and varied assignments; support Emergency Response Organization (ERO) activities and outage operations
- Participate in engineering duty cycle support with call-out availability and 24/7 on-call during 2-week emergency response team duty cycles (every 8 weeks)
Preferred qualifications
Active or previous SRO license, SRO certification, or BWR Management Certification; previous experience in Maintenance, Work Management, Operations, Chemistry/RP organizations.
Location, schedule, and travel
On-site at Columbia Generating Station (Hanford, WA); 24/7 on-call during 2-week emergency response team duty cycles (every 8 weeks); 12-hour shifts during outages; engineering duty cycle call-out availability (typically 1 week at a time).
