Civil/Structural Engineer (Level III or Senior)
About this role
Civil/Structural Engineer (Level III or Senior) within Duke Energy's Project Management and Construction group. You'll provide technical leadership on major power generation projects including nuclear facilities, solar, battery storage, and advanced energy development. This role offers independence, mentorship opportunities, and involvement across project lifecycle from concept through warranty support.
Responsibilities
- —Support development of major project scope, EPC bid packages, cost estimates, schedules, risk analysis, and contract development
- —Provide engineering oversight ensuring compliance with project contracts, design criteria, and building codes
- —Identify, analyze, and resolve complex engineering problems with technical expertise
- —Participate in design reviews, drawing reviews, construction support, RFI resolution, and warranty support
- —Conduct engineering studies and develop solutions within structural and geotechnical specialties
- —Prepare technical reports, calculations, sketches, and engineering documentation with analysis and recommendations
- —Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities
- —Coach and mentor engineering and non-degreed engineering professionals
- —Maintain knowledge of new developments, technologies, and equipment relevant to power generation projects
Qualifications
- —Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET-accredited program OR state PE registration (Master's degree in engineering may substitute for B.S.)
- —Minimum 4 years engineering experience (Level III) OR minimum 6 years engineering experience with PE registration (Senior level)
Desired
- —Geotechnical and structural specialty with expertise in foundations, concrete, structural steel
- —Major power generation or utility project experience with emphasis on constructability and execution
- —Knowledge of permitting, stormwater design, lifting/rigging, erosion control, and building codes
- —Experience with 3-D FEA modeling software
- —Professional Engineering (PE) certification
- —Utility industry background
Location
Primary support for Carolina Region projects with preferred base in Charlotte, NC (alternate: Plainfield, IN). May support Midwest and Florida region projects. PPE required: hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, earplugs as needed.
