Civil Design Engineer
About this role
Civil Design Engineer at Callaway Energy Center (Ameren), a nuclear power plant in mid-Missouri. This role provides technical expertise for safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation, supporting regulatory compliance, equipment optimization, plant modifications, and long-term asset management. Requires thorough knowledge of plant configuration, NRC regulations, industry codes/standards, and nuclear industry practices.
Responsibilities
- —Manage assigned technical programs, systems, components, and designs with full ownership and regulatory compliance oversight
- —Perform evaluation, causal analysis, and disposition of equipment deficiencies, failures, and Requests for Resolution
- —Trend and monitor system/equipment health through operational data, visual inspections, and plant walkdowns
- —Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Work Management, and NRC/regulatory agencies for planning cost-effective maintenance and modifications
- —Provide engineering support during outages, emergent issues, and operational events; act as troubleshooting lead
- —Review technical specifications and develop/revise engineering documents, design changes, procedures, and technical specifications
- —Support safety-related equipment testing and maintenance requirement determinations
- —Perform engineering evaluations and technical design reviews; conduct hazard analyses for design changes
- —Prepare or review procedures for operation, testing, and maintenance of plant equipment
- —Act as Responsible Engineer or Project Manager for assigned projects and modifications, overseeing contractor work
- —Assume Emergency Response Organization duties as assigned
Qualifications
- —Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET-accredited institution
- —Ability to meet plant security screening, access requirements, and fitness-for-duty standards
- —Ability to work safely in industrial environments including radiation areas, heights, and confined spaces
- —Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- —Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- —Ability to work in regulated environment and follow strict procedures
- —Commitment to industrial safety, nuclear safety culture, and human performance tools
Desired
- —Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) Registration
- —Previous nuclear utility experience
Location
Callaway Energy Center, mid-Missouri. Standard day shift in office and plant environments; additional hours and rotating shifts required during refueling outages and emergent activities. Must be able to work safely in industrial, radiation, and confined space environments.
