About this role
A Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) Undervessel Technician is a highly specialized nuclear professional responsible for the mechanical maintenance, inspection, and repair of components located directly beneath the reactor pressure vessel.
Responsibilities
- BWRs insert their control rods from the bottom of the reactor (unlike Pressurized Water Reactors, which insert them from the top), the undervessel area is a highly complex, tight, and radiologically sensitive environment.
- These technicians primarily operate during scheduled refueling outages.
