Supervisor Operational Chemistry
About this role
Supervisor of chemistry operations at a nuclear power plant under Constellation Energy. Direct oversight of field sampling, laboratory analysis, and radioanalytical programs supporting reactor operations. Responsible for supervising chemistry technicians, managing chemistry projects, ensuring regulatory and NRC compliance, and maintaining quality control of analytical measurements critical to plant safety and performance.
Responsibilities
- —Supervise chemistry technicians in sampling and laboratory analysis; provide coaching on chemistry fundamentals, human performance, and procedure compliance
- —Lead chemistry projects and troubleshooting activities impacting plant operations
- —Schedule and execute all chemistry samples and analyses, including NRC-required regulatory samples
- —Oversee lab instrument calibration, operation, and quality assurance while maintaining chemical hygiene standards
- —Review Clean Energy Center work schedules to coordinate chemistry technician activities and prevent operational conflicts
- —Manage technician scheduling, policies, and budgets
- —Participate in Emergency Response Organization (ERO) rotation and Chemistry on-Call rotation; subject to emergency callout
- —Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to chemistry staff
Qualifications
- —High School diploma/GED with 9 years experience (3 years chemistry-related, 1 year at nuclear power plant, 0.25 years on-site); OR
- —Associate's degree with 7 years experience (3 years chemistry-related, 1 year at nuclear power plant, 0.25 years on-site); OR
- —Bachelor's degree with 5 years experience (3 years chemistry-related, 1 year at nuclear power plant, 0.25 years on-site)
- —Meet ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014 Standard (4.4.4) selection and qualification requirements for nuclear power plant personnel
- —Maintain unescorted or escorted access badge requirements per NRC and facility policy
- —Pass medical examination and any required testing per position duties (may include DOT physical)
Desired
- —Bachelor's degree in chemistry or chemical engineering with 5 years chemistry operational experience at an operating nuclear power plant
- —Prior supervisory or lead technician experience
- —Navy Enlisted Electrical Training (ELT) or nuclear power plant chemistry technician background
- —ANSI Radiochemistry Supervisor qualifications (radiochemistry training certification plus 2 years gamma spectroscopy operations experience)
Location
On-site at nuclear power plant facility; subject to NRC emergency preparedness callout rotation and on-call requirements for chemistry coverage
