Superintendent - Maintenance I&C
About this role
Superintendent role overseeing Instruments and Controls (I&C) Maintenance at Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, a dual-unit BWR nuclear facility near Berwick, Pennsylvania. You will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and executing all I&C maintenance activities while ensuring strict compliance with NRC regulations, technical specifications, and safety standards. This is a leadership position managing shop supervisors and technicians across surveillance testing, preventative, predictive, planned, and corrective maintenance for critical plant instrumentation and control systems.
Responsibilities
- —Plan and schedule I&C Maintenance Group work activities cost-effectively without compromising safety, considering field knowledge, contractor vs. in-house labor strategies, overtime reduction, and new technologies
- —Conduct long-range work planning and make organizational decisions for the I&C Maintenance section, including organizational changes, labor agreement interpretation, plant modifications, and personnel promotions
- —Manage and control production and outage efforts by assigning responsibilities to functional area supervisors
- —Oversee shop supervisors and technicians in administration and control of plant I&C Maintenance, including surveillance testing, preventative, predictive, planned and corrective maintenance for plant structures, systems, and components
- —Initiate and implement assigned modifications and procurement documents for materials and services
- —Develop and periodically review maintenance section instructions, procedures, and safety compliance
- —Establish goals, train and develop subordinates, provide technical and managerial expertise, and conduct performance reviews
- —Provide career guidance to maintain competency standards in training and expertise
- —Participate in SSES Nuclear Emergency Response Organization
- —Ensure maintenance work activities are properly planned and executed under the work management program
- —Promote teamwork through in-field observations, coaching, and reinforcement of expectations
- —Identify performance gaps in training development and assure integrity of technical training programs
- —Provide input for budget development and maintain oversight of expenditures
- —Support and manage Corrective Action Program within maintenance department
Qualifications
- —High school diploma or equivalent
- —Seven years of responsible nuclear power plant experience or applicable industrial experience, with a minimum of one year in nuclear power plant operations
- —Non-destructive testing familiarity, craft knowledge, and understanding of electrical, pressure vessel, and piping codes
- —Extensive knowledge of all Maintenance programs, job requirements, procedures, work activities, and plant systems
- —Thorough knowledge of labor agreements and administration requirements
- —Thorough knowledge of all planning/scheduling requirements, information management systems, and man-hour estimating programs
- —Must live within 55 minutes of the plant and be able to qualify and fulfill Emergency Response Organization duties
Desired
- —Bachelor of Science in Engineering or technical area
- —Senior Reactor Operator License or U.S. Navy equivalent
- —Ability to effectively manage fluctuating resource pools and develop work strategies that yield significant cost savings
- —Thorough knowledge and understanding of Susquehanna training and certification programs
Location
Onsite at Susquehanna Steam Electric Station near Berwick, Pennsylvania; must reside within 55 minutes of plant and be available for emergency response duties.
