About this role

Talen Energy seeks a Staff or Senior Accountant to join the plant operations accounting team supporting nuclear and fossil power generation in Allentown, Pennsylvania. You will perform critical accounting, reporting, and financial analysis for PJM-interconnected nuclear and fossil plant activities while ensuring compliance with US GAAP, SOX requirements, FERC, NERC, and OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

—Prepare and maintain journal entries for energy/fuel costs, fixed assets, inventory (coal, oil, materials), O&M expenses, prepaid assets, and investment/equity activity
—Maintain general ledger, fixed asset, and inventory systems; perform account reconciliations and variance analysis for assigned accounts
—Prepare and analyze Balance Sheet and Income Statement flux analysis, financial statements, and internal/external financial reports
—Prepare financial statement workpapers and supporting documentation for audit requests
—Ensure ongoing compliance with GAAP, SEC reporting, FERC, NERC, and OSHA requirements; monitor and apply regulatory guidance changes
—Proactively identify and resolve accounting issues; support internal departments with regulatory and accounting guidance

Qualifications

—Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent professional experience
—3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in energy/utility or power generation sector
—Strong financial accounting, analytical, and planning abilities with meticulous attention to detail
—Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and prioritize under compressed timelines
—High integrity, direct communication style, and proven ability to collaborate across departments
—Extensive Nuclear Power Plant background security clearance required
—Strong oral and written communication skills
