Staff-level Mechanical Design Engineer role at North Anna Power Station (Dominion Energy) supporting nuclear plant modifications, capital projects, and system upgrades. This is the top progression position in the engineer series for candidates with 8+ years of relevant experience and deep expertise in mechanical design for nuclear facilities. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing mechanical design changes, calculations, analyses, specifications, and drawings in accordance with the Standard Design Process (SDP); supporting capital and plant modification projects through all phases; coordinating with civil/structural, electrical, I&C, system engineering, operations, and maintenance teams; interfacing with engineering vendors and fleet organizations; applying codes and standards to maintain plant design and licensing bases; providing construction and field support; supporting design change reviews and regulatory screenings (10 CFR 50.59); and serving as a developing Responsible Engineer (RE) for assigned scope.
Responsibilities
- —Prepare, review, and provide technical input to mechanical design changes, calculations, analyses, specifications, drawings, and vendor documents in accordance with the Standard Design Process (SDP)
- —Support capital and plant modification projects through engineering, procurement, construction support, implementation, and closeout
- —Coordinate and integrate mechanical design activities with civil/structural, electrical, I&C, system engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction organizations
- —Interface with engineering vendors, suppliers, fleet engineering organizations, and station stakeholders throughout all phases of design development
- —Apply sound engineering judgment in the evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of engineering methods, standards, and criteria
- —Interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, regulations, and industry guidance to maintain plant design and licensing bases
- —Provide construction and field support, including resolution of design issues, RFIs, and emergent plant conditions
- —Support design change reviews, interdisciplinary coordination, and regulatory screenings as required (e.g., 10 CFR 50.59)
- —Serve as a developing Responsible Engineer (RE) for assigned scope, with increasing ownership of deliverables and technical decisions
Qualifications
- —8+ years of relevant engineering experience (PhD in Engineering can substitute for up to 5 years based on research engineering work)
- —Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or equivalent recognized engineering degree
- —At least one year of nuclear power plant experience
- —Extensive knowledge of engineering theories, principles, and practices applicable to mechanical design
- —Demonstrated expertise in advanced engineering techniques and modification of engineering practices
- —Full knowledge of business, financial, and contractual matters
- —Recognized as an expert by other engineers and management in assigned area
- —Strong planning and project management skills
- —Strong technical and organizational leadership skills
- —Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing
- —In-depth knowledge of computer applications and engineering software (Matlab, Excel, etc.)
- —Proven decision-making skills and ability to think analytically and solve complex problems
- —Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply codes, regulations, and industry practices
Desired
- —Experience with the Nuclear Standard Design Process in accordance with INPO Industry Procedure IP-ENG-001
- —Valid U.S. Professional Engineer license
