About this role
TerraPower is hiring a Site Quality Assurance Engineer for the Natrium advanced reactor project's Nuclear Island and Energy Island. You'll define, coordinate, and execute quality assurance across an interdisciplinary nuclear engineering team, ensuring compliance with nuclear quality standards throughout construction and development. This role requires NQA-1 certification qualification and direct oversight of internal teams, contractors, and vendors on a high-visibility DOE-backed nuclear construction project.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and report status of quality-related activities on site
- Oversee partner and vendor technical work to ensure compliance with quality standards
- Participate in Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), Continuous Improvement, Lessons Learned, and Risk Management processes
- Review quality-affecting procedures (engineering, procurement, document control, records, testing) for program compliance
- Review procurement specifications, purchase orders, contracts, and task orders to ensure QA requirements flow down to suppliers
- Review design drawings, specifications, test plans, and technical documents using graded approach methodology
- Identify and communicate work process improvement opportunities to department management
- Provide technical oversight of contractor, supplier, and partner work with approval authority
- Ensure compliance with TerraPower Engineering procedures and applicable quality standards
- Facilitate definition of technical interfaces and handoffs between teams
- Assist in identifying and verifying applicable regulations, codes (ASME, NEC, IEEE), and standards
- Ensure technical documents meet applicable NRC regulatory guides and industry codes
- Ensure design conducted in accordance with project requirements, configuration management, and change control plans
- Keep senior management informed of major emerging technical issues
- Prepare and initiate budget, cost, and schedule change notices
Preferred qualifications
- Prior nuclear construction oversight experience
- 10+ years' experience in nuclear (NRC, DOE) Quality Assurance function or regulated environments (EPA, aerospace)
- Experience building Nuclear Power Plants
- Knowledge of industry codes, standards, and guides: ASME, AWS, AISC, ASTM, EPRI, NEI, ISO, NEC, IEEE
- Strong technical acumen with ability to understand complex technical concepts
