Required qualifications
- B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or other relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university or equivalent experience
- 5+ years direct nuclear power plant experience with responsibility for safety-related systems and components
- 5+ years direct commercial nuclear reactor operating experience, including Senior Reactor Operator qualification or equivalent
- Experience developing and/or using commissioning administrative processes and procedures
- Knowledge of nuclear regulations, plant work control processes, operational design philosophies, and integrated plant operations during normal and off-normal events
- Deep understanding of configuration management principles and design control tools application in nuclear or complex industrial environments
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
- Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence
- Ability to manage projects with competing objectives and design constraints
About this role
TerraPower seeks a Commissioning Engineer to lead integrated design, commissioning, and operation of the Natrium Demonstration Plant's systems and structures. This role requires deep nuclear expertise to coordinate multi-organizational design and commissioning teams, develop comprehensive commissioning plans, and ensure all plant systems meet NRC safety and operational requirements before commercial operation.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate geographically diverse design and commissioning teams (TerraPower employees, subcontractors, partners, customers) to develop design and testing documentation
- Develop and implement commissioning administrative programs and procedures
- Develop and coordinate an integrated nuclear plant commissioning schedule across multiple organizations
- Support development, maintenance, and refinement of plant-level and system-level requirements, specifications, and strategy documents for commissioning, operations, and maintenance
- Lead commissioning and design efforts to evaluate plant integrated control and transient event responses; provide recommendations for efficient operational strategies
- Oversee plant development efforts through contractor oversight and interface activities
- Apply nuclear industry best practices and proactively identify process improvements
- Support licensing activities associated with Safety Analysis Reports
- Provide leadership and oversight of commissioning programs to ensure testing meets design criteria
Preferred qualifications
- Experience implementing integrated plant design of nuclear systems, including complex systems and structures
- Shift Technical Advisor qualification
- Experience developing and/or approving nuclear plant operations and maintenance procedures
- Experience using P6 Primavera or similar scheduling applications
- Knowledge of Risk Informed methodologies for integrated plant design or similar probabilistic design methods
