Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical discipline; or relevant professional experience
- Minimum 3–5 years in training simulator engineering, real-time simulation, or plant system modeling in nuclear or heavily regulated environments
- Proficiency in FORTRAN, C++, and Python
- Hands-on experience with real-time simulation platforms (R*Time and/or RTP)
- Familiarity with configuration management and version control systems
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving abilities
About this role
Design, develop, and maintain dynamic models for a first-of-a-kind fast sodium reactor training simulator. Ensure simulator fidelity across normal operations, transients, and off-normal conditions using FORTRAN, C++, Python, and real-time simulation platforms (R*Time, RTP). Support operator training and engineering validation with reactor system modeling, I&C integration, acceptance testing, and compliance with NRC and INPO standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain dynamic models of fast reactor systems (primary sodium coolant loops, intermediate circuits, decay heat removal, I&C logic) using FORTRAN, C++, and Python
- Configure, troubleshoot, and integrate real-time simulation platforms (R*Time, RTP) with control room hardware, digital I&C, and interface systems
- Perform acceptance testing, validation, debugging, and model verification against plant calculations, design basis events, and training requirements
- Collaborate with reactor design engineers, I&C specialists, training staff, and human factors experts to ensure simulator fidelity across operational scenarios
- Participate in simulator upgrade and rehosting projects, including digital I&C adaptation and visualization enhancements
- Maintain configuration management, version control, performance benchmarking, and change tracking for all models
- Support live training sessions by diagnosing simulator issues and implementing corrective model actions
- Produce engineering documentation, model descriptions, test records, and change logs compliant with nuclear QA standards and configuration control
- Align simulator development with ANSI/ANS-3.5, 10 CFR 55, and INPO accreditation requirements
Preferred qualifications
- Direct experience developing nuclear simulators for advanced reactors (fast reactors, sodium-cooled systems, first-of-a-kind plants)
- Knowledge of fast reactor physics, liquid-metal thermal-hydraulics, or advanced reactor technologies
- Familiarity with ANSI/ANS-3.5, NRC licensing (10 CFR 50/52), INPO simulator accreditation, or NQA-1 standards
- Experience in nuclear power plant training organizations, digital I&C integration, HSI validation, or plant commissioning
- Eligibility for U.S. government export-controlled work (U.S. Citizen, National, or Permanent Resident)
