Shift Support Supervisor In-Training/Senior Reactor Operator - ALL PLANT LOCATIONS
About this role
Train to become a Shift Support Supervisor (Senior Reactor Operator) at Southern Nuclear's BWR and PWR facilities in Alabama and Georgia. Complete NRC-mandated systems training, obtain your operating license, and direct nuclear plant operations on rotating 12-hour shifts at facilities including Plant Hatch (Baxley, GA), Farley (Dothan, AL), and Vogtle (Waynesboro, GA).
Responsibilities
- —Perform Operations staff functions during plant familiarization training to prepare for NRC Hot License Class
- —Stand watch on rotating 12-hour shifts as a licensed Shift Support Supervisor
- —Direct operating shift personnel in the performance of plant duties
- —Coordinate and direct the operation of nuclear power plant systems
- —Maintain qualifications as a member of the plant Fire Brigade
- —Participate in continuous training with periodic NRC examinations
- —Support the plant Emergency Response Organization as required
Qualifications
- —At least 1 year as an active reactor operator at a BWR/PWR facility; OR 1.5+ years at a non-comparable commercial power reactor; OR 2+ years in military equivalent position (Engineering Officer of the Watch or Propulsion Plant Watch Officer)
- —High school diploma or equivalent
- —Demonstrated leadership ability
- —Excellent oral and written communication skills
- —Solid analytical thinking and strong mechanical aptitude
- —High degree of manual dexterity and mature judgment
- —Pass initial screening and annual medical requirements
- —Pass extensive background investigation and obtain U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Unescorted Access
- —Ability to maintain respirator qualification
Desired
- —Six or more years' experience in nuclear plant operations (nuclear navy or commercial power plant)
- —Previous NRC RO or SRO license or military equivalent
- —Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
Location
On-site rotating 12-hour shifts; multiple Southern Nuclear plant locations with primary focus on Plant Hatch (Baxley, GA). Also covers Farley (Dothan, AL) and Vogtle (Waynesboro, GA). Requires U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Unescorted Access and Fire Brigade duty participation.
