Shift Support Supervisor In-Training/Senior Reactor Operator - ALL PLANT LOCATIONS
About this role
Senior Reactor Operator In-Training role (titled Shift Support Supervisor In-Training at Southern Nuclear Company) designed to prepare licensed reactor operators for NRC Hot License Class and full operating license. Successful candidates will perform operations staff functions for plant familiarization, then upon NRC licensure, direct operating shift personnel and coordinate nuclear power plant system operations at SNC facilities.
Responsibilities
- —Perform Operations staff functions for plant familiarization prior to NRC Hot License Class
- —Complete plant-provided systems and fundamentals training on reactor operation, heat transfer, fluid flow, and thermodynamics
- —Stand watch on rotating 12-hour shifts as a Shift Support Supervisor following NRC Operating License acquisition
- —Direct operating shift personnel in the performance of plant duties
- —Coordinate and direct the operation of the nuclear power plant's systems
- —Maintain qualification as a member of the plant Fire Brigade
- —Participate in continuous training with periodic examinations
- —Maintain respirator qualification
- —Potentially maintain qualifications and on-call responsibilities in support of the plant Emergency Response Organization
Qualifications
- —At least one of the following: 1+ years as active reactor operator at BWR/PWR facility; OR 1.5+ years as active reactor operator at non-comparable commercial power reactor; OR 2+ years in military equivalent position (Engineering Officer of the Watch or Propulsion Plant Watch Officer)
- —High school diploma or equivalent
- —Demonstrated leadership ability
- —Excellent oral and written communication skills
- —Solid analytical thinking and strong mechanical aptitude
- —High degree of manual dexterity and mature judgment
- —Ability to meet U.S. Nuclear Power Plant unescorted access requirements
- —Pass initial screening and annual medical requirements for industrial fire brigade duties
- —Willingness to participate in company's Fitness-for-Duty Program
Desired
- —6+ years experience in nuclear plant operations (Nuclear Navy or commercial power plant)
- —Previous NRC RO or SRO license or military equivalent
- —Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
Location
Rotating 12-hour shifts; multiple plant locations with primary focus on Plant Hatch in Baxley, GA; site-specific postings will be released when Shift Support Supervisor In-Training classes are scheduled.
