Senior Reactor Operator
About this role
Constellation is hiring Initial License Trainees to become NRC-licensed Senior Reactor Operators at Byron Nuclear Station in Illinois. You'll complete comprehensive classroom and on-the-job training to supervise licensed reactor operators and equipment operators in the control room. Training begins August 2026, leading to NRC Senior Reactor Operator licensure and Operations Shift Supervisor responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- —Complete Initial License Training (ILT) including classroom instruction, examinations, on-the-job training, and evaluations
- —Successfully pass all training phases and NRC Senior Reactor Operator licensing exam
- —Perform duties of Operations Shift Supervisor upon obtaining NRC license
- —Supervise licensed reactor operators and bargaining unit equipment operators in the reactor control room
- —Respond to emergency situations and support outage activities as directed
- —Perform additional job assignments and departmental coverage as assigned
Qualifications
- —High school diploma or GED
- —One of the following:
- —1 year Reactor Operator license at comparable facility (PWR/PWR or BWR/BWR), OR
- —1.5 years Reactor Operator experience at non-comparable facility, OR
- —1.5+ years equivalent experience as Reactor Operator/Supervisor at military reactor (Power Plant Watch Engineer, Engineering Watch Supervisor, etc.), OR
- —4-year degree in engineering, engineering technology, or physical sciences plus 1.5+ years as qualified non-licensed operator or in operations, engineering, maintenance, chemistry, radiation protection, or training at comparable facility, OR
- —Current/previous SRO Instructor certification with 4 years experience at comparable facility or 6 years at non-comparable facility
- —Maintain minimum access or unescorted access requirements per position duties
- —Favorable medical examination and testing in accordance with position requirements
Location
Byron, Illinois. Extended shift coverage required with mandatory operation hours paid at 1.5x base salary (hourly basis). Relocation assistance may be available.
