Senior Mechanical Designer
About this role
Senior Mechanical Designer at TerraPower creating structural and mechanical design solutions for advanced Generation IV nuclear reactors. You'll develop 3D CAD models and engineering drawings supporting conceptual through detailed design phases of nuclear fuel handling systems, with significant responsibility for design documentation integrity and team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- —Create and maintain CAD models (conceptual and detailed designs) for nuclear fuel handling systems, optimized for performance analysis
- —Produce engineering drawings applying ASME 14.1 and Y14.5 standards; review and verify accuracy of detail and layout drawings
- —Update models and drawings based on engineering team requirements; maintain drawing system integrity in product data management systems
- —Define modeling structure and standards for large, complex nuclear design projects; review group design standards and propose improvements
Qualifications
- —Minimum 7 years CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred)
- —Demonstrated experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5
- —Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
- —Mechanical and Machine Design experience, preferably in nuclear fuel handling
- —Product Data Management (PDM) system experience
- —Detail-oriented with excellent writing and communication skills
- —Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent tasks
- —Demonstrated trustworthiness, integrity, and teamwork capability

- —Nuclear design experience
Location
Onsite, 0-10% travel required. Physical demands: extended sitting, fine motor control, ability to safely lift up to 25 pounds, >8 hours/day work environment.
