Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field
- 0-2 years of related EHS experience
- Basic understanding of 29 CFR 1910 & 1926 (OSHA standards)
- First Aid / CPR / AED Certification
- Understanding of occupational exposure limits (ACGIH TLV, OSHA PEL)
- Ability to wear all levels of PPE
- Effective written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively as a team member
- High degree of trust, integrity, and ability to foster open communication and teamwork
About this role
Support daily site safety operations at TerraPower, a nuclear technology company, through routine inspections, audits, facility walkdowns, chemical management, and hazardous waste program assistance. This role is critical to maintaining safe working conditions at a nuclear R&D facility and includes delivering basic safety training to workforce members.
Responsibilities
- Conduct weekly and monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, eyewash and safety showers, AEDs, first aid kits, and other safety equipment
- Perform routine facility inspections, audits, and safety walkdowns
- Assist with establishment and monitoring of safe working conditions and EHS program implementation
- Receive, maintain, reconcile, and dispense bulk chemicals; manage chemical inventory
- Manage hazardous waste handling and assist with basic EHS sampling
- Deliver basic safety training to workforce members
- Perform basic spill response and assist in investigations of accidents, injuries, illnesses, or near misses
Preferred qualifications
- Knowledge of 10 CFR (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) & 40 CFR (Environmental Protection Agency) regulations
- HAZWOPER 24/40 hr, DOT, IATA, or RCRA certification
- Passion for working in a fast-paced Research & Development environment
Location, schedule, and travel
Onsite role with 0-10% travel. Physical requirements: ability to sit for extended periods, bend/stoop, lift up to 25 pounds, and work extended shifts (>8 hours/day).
