Senior Counsel, APx
About this role
Senior Counsel supporting Westinghouse's APX (Advanced Plants) business unit, providing comprehensive legal advice on complex commercial contracts for major new nuclear construction projects. You'll advise internal clients across all management levels on EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) agreements, teaming arrangements, supplier contracts, and related mega-project legal issues, with primary focus on North American new reactor development and secondary support for global initiatives.
Responsibilities
- —Provide legal support to APX delivery and commercial operations teams on complex new reactor development projects and related procurements
- —Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements including EPC agreements, teaming agreements, joint ventures, and engineering services agreements
- —Provide prompt, practical, and risk-informed legal counsel to internal clients at all management levels
- —Represent Westinghouse in commercial negotiations and disputes with utilities, project developers, construction partners, and other external parties
- —Engage with specialists to mitigate legal risks across the full scope of issues associated with new reactor development
- —Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and the Westinghouse Global Ethics Code while managing commercial legal risks
- —Remain current on legal developments within scope of responsibilities and provide updates to clients
- —Work with in-house colleagues and manage outside counsel to accomplish legal objectives
Qualifications
- —J.D. from an accredited law school
- —5–10+ years of experience representing clients in complex industrial, construction, or procurement contract negotiations or high-value major project litigation
- —Experience in-house, at a law firm, or both
- —Experience providing legal advice on commercial business issues related to mega-project contract negotiations
- —Admission to practice in an appropriate US jurisdiction
- —Experience developing high-quality legal documents including commercial agreements, letters, external correspondence, and memoranda
Desired
- —Experience with international NEC or FIDIC contract forms
- —Knowledge of nuclear new build projects and regulatory environment
Location
Hybrid work schedule; positions available in Cranberry Township PA, Charlotte NC, Columbia SC, or Washington DC; primary focus on North America with secondary support for global projects in Europe, Middle East, and elsewhere.
