Senior Civil Engineer
About this role
Senior Civil Structural Engineer at Westinghouse supporting nuclear energy projects. Lead civil and structural design activities for nuclear facilities, evaluate complex structural systems (steel, reinforced concrete, composite), and resolve technical issues across building engineering from design through construction and on-site support.
Responsibilities
- —Design and develop nuclear facility infrastructure projects, ensuring safety and efficiency per nuclear standards
- —Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and verify compliance with design specifications
- —Evaluate structural systems including steel members, reinforced concrete, and composite steel for nuclear applications
- —Resolve technical issues for building structure design, fabrication, assembly, and construction phases
- —Provide technical justification for design changes and emergent issues; troubleshoot problems
- —Provide on-site support at utilities and nuclear project sites
- —Use ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and GTSTRUDL for structural analysis of nuclear structures
- —Maintain software compliance records and track engineering corrective actions
- —Apply industry civil/structural codes and standards (ACI, AISC, ASCE, AWS) relevant to nuclear facilities
- —Create sketches and markups using AutoCAD or similar CAD tools
- —Document design change proposals, revisions, and generate engineering drawings
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- —5+ years of experience in civil/structural design and evaluation
- —Proficiency with ANSYS, LS-DYNA, GTSTRUDL, or similar structural analysis software
- —Knowledge of nuclear facility design standards and practices
- —Interest in pursuing FE/EIT or PE certification
