Regulatory Compliance Engineer - Licensing
About this role
Regulatory Compliance Engineer III at Kairos Power supporting commercialization of a fluoride-salt-cooled fast reactor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. You will serve as the primary NRC interface, develop facility operating procedures and compliance strategies, and ensure adherence to all NRC regulations and license conditions for a new advanced reactor design.
Responsibilities
- —Provide regulatory guidance to operations teams on NRC compliance, license conditions, and procedure implementation
- —Serve as primary point of contact for NRC inspectors and oversee facility operations oversight
- —Lead preparation, execution, and response to NRC inspections
- —Maintain facility Technical Specifications, FSAR, and other licensing basis documents
- —Support 10 CFR 50.59 and 10 CFR Part 21 screenings and evaluations
- —Identify regulatory risks and develop mitigation strategies
- —Perform event reportability determinations and prepare NRC event notifications
- —Prepare NRC correspondence including periodic reports, inspection responses, requests for information, licensee event reports, and operator licensing applications
Qualifications
- —B.S. in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related field
- —3+ years nuclear facility operations experience
- —Demonstrated technical writing ability
- —Knowledge of NRC regulations (10 CFR Part 50, 10 CFR Part 21, etc.) and regulatory guidance
- —Knowledge of operational protocols and procedure implementation
- —Proven coordination and stakeholder management skills
- —Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- —Ability to work collaboratively in team environments with proactive problem-solving
- —Commitment to safety
Desired
- —NRC-licensed operator (SRO or RO license)
- —Direct experience interacting with the NRC
- —Procedure Professionals Association (PPA) certification
- —Experience developing compliance-based programs and procedures
Location
Onsite in Oak Ridge, TN; up to 35% travel; occasional schedule flexibility and non-standard hours required. Physical demands include ladder/stairs climbing, confined space work, standing/sitting for prolonged periods, and lifting up to 30 pounds in radiological/controlled environments.
