Radiation Protection Supervisor - Plant Hatch
About this role
Lead a team of radiation protection technicians at Plant Hatch, overseeing health physics activities and radiological compliance in controlled areas. This hands-on supervisory role combines work management, regulatory compliance, emergency response coordination, and field oversight of radiological work activities.
Responsibilities
- —Supervise radiation protection technicians and direct health physics activities supporting operations and maintenance in radiologically controlled areas
- —Provide oversight of work management processes and planning for radiological work activities; implement procedures to meet site and NRC regulatory requirements
- —Lead technicians by establishing clear goals, accountabilities, and performance measures; conduct weekly planning and critique processes with direct field oversight
- —Spend regular time in the field providing hands-on direction, oversight, and fostering engaged working relationships across the site
- —Drive continuous improvement within radiation protection department processes and procedures
- —Support emergency response organization by filling on-call rotation position and maintaining 90-minute response availability
- —Promote Safety First culture and ensure consistent adherence to safe work practices across the team
Qualifications
- —Associate's or Bachelor's degree in physical sciences or engineering (strongly preferred)
- —Minimum 5 years' experience in radiation protection at a nuclear reactor facility (minimum 2 years in technical training)
- —Knowledge of plant procedures, regulatory requirements (10 CFR 20 / NRC), and plant systems
- —Knowledge of work management processes and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain priorities
- —Strong leadership capability to develop and manage a diverse workforce
- —Effective teamwork and ability to sustain working relationships across disciplines
- —Strong personal safety record; must meet background screening and fitness for duty requirements
- —Must reside within 90-minute response time of Plant Hatch for emergency response availability
- —Must meet physical requirements of the position
Desired
- —Previous leadership or RP supervisory experience
- —NRRPT (National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists) Certification
Location
Plant Hatch, Georgia; onsite field work required; on-call emergency response rotation with mandatory residence within 90-minute response time
