Radiation Protection Specialist
About this role
Radiation Protection Specialist role at Entergy nuclear facility focused on ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) planning and implementation. This position requires independent technical decision-making on exposure reduction strategies, contamination control, and radiological risk management across plant operations and outages. Candidates will work directly with operations teams, outage planning, and leadership to minimize radiation doses across the fleet.
Responsibilities
- —Prepare and implement ALARA planning, estimation, work group involvement, and procedure implementation in accordance with Entergy procedural guidance
- —Conduct performance assessments, corrective actions, benchmarking, and job evaluations regarding ALARA processes and practices
- —Implement fleet and industry best practices for exposure reduction
- —Perform outage planning and other duties integral to the Radiation Protection ALARA program
- —Communicate with customers to determine best plans for exposure reduction
- —Independently assess and make field technical decisions regarding job performance, condition assessment, and management communication
- —Assess corrective actions to improve exposure reduction, contamination reduction, and work efficiency
- —Coach staff and perform critical observations
- —Create, track, close, and file RWPs, ALARA Plans, TEDE-ALARA Evaluations, and Outage Milestones
- —Validate dose estimates for work orders and emergent work
- —Prepare shielding plans and TSR development and approval
- —Monitor and document accumulated dose for stations and work groups
- —Prepare for, attend, and interact with ALARA Managers Committee meetings
- —Represent Radiation Protection Department in online and outage work planning processes
- —Review station work schedules and temporary alterations for ALARA dose impacts and radiological risk
- —Organize, assemble, and maintain job history files
- —Establish radiological work requirements
Qualifications
- —For ALARA Specialist III: 5+ years as an ANSI qualified RP Technician
- —For ALARA Specialist Senior: 8+ years as an ANSI qualified RP Technician
- —ANSI qualified 3.1 Sr RP (5+ years) with High Radiological Risk job coverage experience
- —Previous ALARA experience
- —Experience in Nuclear Power Plant Operations
- —B.S. Degree in Chemistry or related technical degree (may be credited for up to 1 year of experience), or equivalent work experience
Location
Onsite at Killona, Louisiana; up to 25% travel; available for emergency work, additional hours, and alternate locations as needed
