Radiation Protection Adviser
About this role
Provide comprehensive radiation protection support at Westinghouse's Springfields Fuel Site near Preston, a uranium fuel fabrication facility. As a Radiation Protection Adviser, you'll interpret and ensure compliance with UK radiation legislation (IRR17, REPPIR, CDG19), manage dosimetry programs, oversee radioactive waste handling, conduct radiation risk assessments, and advise on radiological hazards to ensure safe and compliant nuclear fuel operations.
Responsibilities
- —Develop and implement the site's Radiation Protection Strategy aligned with UK regulations (IRR17, REPPIR, CDG19)
- —Conduct radiation risk assessments and support ALARP-based control measures
- —Review internal and external dosimetry data; advise on instrument selection for surveillance and waste sentencing
- —Participate in corporate RWA arrangements for radioactive waste handling, clearance, and transport
- —Prepare and deliver training within the Radiation Safety programme
- —Investigate radiological incidents and trends, initiating corrective actions and participating in emergency response exercises
- —Prepare, review, and approve site instructions, ALARP assessments, and transport risk assessments
- —Oversee compliance across site operations with performance metrics and incident reporting
- —Promote safety culture and actively contribute to hazard identification and risk assessments
- —Support incident investigations and root cause analysis
- —Participate in safety audits, inspections, and reviews providing expert radiological input
- —Champion continuous improvement in health and safety performance
Qualifications
- —Current Certificate of Competence as an RPA (Radiation Protection Adviser) issued by RPA2000
- —Strong knowledge of UK radiation legislation (IRR17, REPPIR, CDG19)
- —Operational understanding of ALARP principles
Desired
- —Experience in uranium-based nuclear operations
- —Expertise in radiation protection instrumentation and waste management
- —RWA certification and knowledge of radioactive material transport
