About this role
TerraPower seeks a Quality Assurance Engineer to lead QA activities for advanced nuclear reactor programs in an NRC-regulated environment. You will manage regulatory compliance, supplier audits, and quality processes across contract reviews, engineering document oversight, and internal/external audit coordination, reporting to the QA & Continuous Improvement Manager.
Responsibilities
- —Review customer and regulatory contracts to develop baseline requirements matrices and compliance documents
- —Interface with customer and supplier QA representatives to resolve quality, technical, and compliance issues
- —Review engineering documents (design drawings, specifications, test plans) for compliance with governing procedures and QA requirements
- —Plan and perform supplier qualification audits and surveillances as a Certified Audit Team Leader (ATL)
- —Conduct annual evaluations and triennial audits of approved suppliers on the TerraPower Evaluated Suppliers List (ESL)
- —Coordinate and host customer and regulator audits, surveillances, and visits
- —Develop, revise, and review QA processes and procedures
- —Plan and perform internal audits as a certified ATL
- —Participate in Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), Continuous Improvement, Lessons Learned, and Risk Management processes
- —Review quality-affecting procedures to ensure flow-down of applicable QA requirements
- —Review procurement specifications, purchase orders, contracts, and quality program requirements documents
- —Perform mentoring and training on NRC quality assurance issues and licensing
Qualifications
- —Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in a technical discipline, business, management, or quality assurance field
- —8–10 years' experience in nuclear (NRC or DOE) Quality Assurance in a regulated environment
- —Current NQA-1 Lead Auditor certification, NRC vendor inspector certification, or equivalent industry-recognized certification (or ability to obtain within one year)
- —Demonstrated experience with NRC 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR Part 21, ASME NQA-1-2015, and Regulatory Guide 1.28 Revision 5
- —High degree of trust and integrity with strong communication and teamwork skills
Desired
- —Extensive experience with evaluation and qualification of NQA-1 commercial supply chain suppliers
- —Experience applying a graded approach to quality from conceptual design through safety-related design and construction
- —Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and guides: ASME, AWS, AISC, ASTM, EPRI, NEI, ISO, NEC, IEEE
Location
Remote or onsite in Everett, WA; up to 50% travel within continental U.S. Role involves prolonged sitting, minimal physical exertion (up to 25 lbs lifting), and visual/audio-focused work.
