About this role

Project Engineer role at Entergy managing technical aspects of new power generation capital projects. You'll oversee engineering design, coordinate cross-functional teams including EPC contractors and subject matter experts, manage contractor performance, ensure NERC and Security Standards compliance, and drive projects from design through commissioning. Onsite in The Woodlands, TX with clear advancement pathways to Sr, Sr Lead, or Sr Staff levels.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all technical aspects of new power generation capital projects
  • Oversee contractor engineering performance and coordinate contractor/owner engineering interfaces
  • Ensure projects meet construction drawings, specifications, quality, and performance requirements
  • Promote safe behavior, identify engineered safety controls, and facilitate hazard removal during design
  • Support and lead cross-functional teams including Subject Matter Experts, Owners Engineers, EPC Contractors, and Technical Consultants
  • Review engineering design for compliance with contracts, permits, codes, and utility standards
  • Ensure project compliance with NERC and Security Standards
  • Verify that all engineering firms are properly licensed in the project state
  • Participate in contractor/vendor selection and assess engineering experience and capability
  • Support technical open book engineering process and value engineering concepts
  • Assist contractors and vendors in resolving technical queries during design and construction
  • Support change management process for design changes
  • Participate in equipment inspection activities
  • Support Owner review and signoff of System Turnover packages
  • Coordinate with Project Manager to follow Project Delivery System and produce deliverables
  • Ensure documentation of engineering and construction quality for audit and prudency review
  • Support commissioning and ensure performance, reliability, and emissions testing are completed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • Project Engineer, Sr: 6+ years of applicable and progressive professional experience in engineering design, construction, or operation of power systems (or 5 years with PE/PMP Certification or Masters Degree)
  • Project Engineer, Sr Lead: 10+ years of applicable and progressive professional experience in engineering design, construction, or operation of power systems (or 8 years with PE/PMP Certification or Masters Degree)
  • Project Engineer Sr Staff: 12+ years of applicable and progressive professional experience in engineering design, construction, or operation of power systems (or 10 years with PE/PMP Certification or Masters Degree)
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills with strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership behaviors
  • Expert knowledge of engineering fundamentals within at least one discipline (civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, chemical, or construction)
  • Advanced knowledge of practical application of engineering science and technology to power generation
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction or repair of power generation facilities and QA/QC protocol
  • Knowledge of permits required for construction and operation of power generation facilities
  • Experience reviewing, executing, and managing large EPC contracts
  • Advanced critical thinking skills and capability to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions

Desired

  • Advanced degree (Masters or higher)
  • Fossil (gas) plant experience, preferably in combined cycle (CCGT) technology and/or construction
  • PE or PMP Certification

Location

Onsite in The Woodlands, TX; relocation assistance available for candidates outside the area.
