About this role

Principal Civil Structural Engineer at Westinghouse supporting nuclear facility design, construction, and infrastructure projects. Lead civil and structural engineering activities for nuclear power plants and related facilities, resolving technical issues across building systems, conducting site evaluations, and providing on-site construction support.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop nuclear facility infrastructure including buildings, structures, and support systems, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance
  • Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and verify compliance with design specifications and nuclear standards
  • Evaluate structural systems including steel members, reinforced concrete, and composite materials for nuclear applications
  • Resolve technical issues during building structure design, fabrication, assembly, and construction phases
  • Provide technical justification for design changes, emergent issues, and troubleshooting in nuclear environments
  • Deliver on-site engineering support at nuclear utilities, construction sites, and fabrication facilities
  • Use ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and GTSTRUDL for structural analysis; maintain software compliance records and engineering corrective action closure
  • Apply nuclear and civil/structural codes and standards including 10 CFR, ACI, AISC, ASCE, and AWS
  • Create technical sketches and markups using AutoCAD or similar CAD software
  • Document design change proposals, revisions, and generate engineering drawings and design basis documentation

Preferred qualifications

  • Active interest in nuclear energy applications and nuclear facility design
  • Pursuit of or willingness to pursue FE/EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Experience with nuclear regulatory codes and standards (10 CFR 50, NRC requirements)

Location, schedule, and travel

Hybrid role based in Rock Hill, SC; on-site support required at nuclear utilities and project construction sites
