About this role

Principal Chemical Engineer supporting safe manufacture of nuclear fuel at Westinghouse's Columbia, SC facility. Analyze production processes, identify inefficiencies, and deliver solutions using lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies while collaborating with operations and quality teams.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for preventing waste and inefficiency during nuclear fuel production
  • Research and test design ideas to determine feasibility using lean manufacturing, kaizen, and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Develop manufacturing concepts to simplify and improve processes and ensure best practices
  • Create required product specifications, preventative maintenance procedures, and manufacturing process documentation
  • Work with quality engineering to disposition material that has deviated from normal manufacturing processes
  • Collaborate with upstream and downstream manufacturing areas to ensure timely product flow
  • Track Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) for assigned areas and lead improvements
  • Work with area manager to track Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and implement process improvements to eliminate scrap and rework
